A short trip to the moon

Photo Friday—Horses

Here’s one I recently unearthed from the archives.

This was taken high above Central Otago on the way  to the top of Kopuwai (the Old Man Range). We took the lazy way to the top and hopped into the 4wd. At this altitude it the scenery is classic Central Otago hill country, the views are pretty stunning and everything is coloured with those insanely bright Otago blue and gold hues. But once you reach the top, it is like being on another planet—the barren windswept hill tops look more like a moonscape, especially when you are standing beside the Obelisk (Kopuwai) an imposing rock tor that stands sentinel over the windswept hill top.

We took the back roads off further into the hills to explore more of the surreal landscape. However it was this photo from on the way back down that caught my eye as I looked through the archived photos.
