The sun was low in the sky as we roared away from the airport in a taxi. Soon we were darting through traffic in the streets of Havana. Decrepit vehicles from a bygone era belched toxic fumes through the open windows. The roar of ancient motorcycle engines filled our ears. Everywhere we looked, images of Che Guevara gazed contemplatively back—from buildings, billboards, posters and street art. We had arrived in Cuba.
(more…)We really needed to slow down. We had been travelling too fast and we were looking for somewhere to stop for a while. We hoped to not have to set up the tent every night. To know where we were going to sleep. To familiarise ourselves with a local food vendor. We also needed to save some money, because we’d budgeted for 18–24 months of travel and had used up over half of the minimum not long after arriving in the Mexican mainland.
Our plan was that Guanajuato would be the place where all of this would happen.

Excited for you 🙂
Pat
Thanks, hope to see you on the road in Alaska perhaps?
What Cities are you going to in Alaska? I can check what days we’ll be in them 🙂
We aren’t exactly sure yet, we know we’ll be in Anchorage from 21-31 May.
From there we may be heading up through Fairbanks then on to Deadhorse, but we’ll also take some time to explore Denali National Park either on the way to or from Fairbanks.
We’re also interested in exploring the Kenai Peninsula and there are several roads that sound amazing to drive.
So as you can see, we don’t really have a plan, we might have a better idea closer to the time… or we may still be winging it! (Probably still winging it)
But if you have any places on your list that you reckon we really shouldn’t miss in Alaska, please let us know 🙂
